Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hardcourt

A resurgent Medvedev secured his initial championship for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has had a difficult year, achieving just a single victory at the big events and experiencing a setback at the US Open.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his service game in especial - resulted in him dropping out of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with long-time coach his previous coach.

Presently training with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has steadily progressed in the past month - peaking in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Frenchman Moutet.

It is Medvedev's initial championship since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hardcourt after March of the previous year.

Success also means he has won 21 victories at 21 different tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a tournament with my two daughters simultaneously, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," commented world number 14 Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my child Victoria, because the first title I got when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six finals, including in the German tournament earlier this year.

Medvedev's defensive strategy and recurring outbursts on the tennis court had caused commentators to question if his skill to play at the top level was over.

However the athlete has made changes in the past month, striving to advance forward and perform positively, reinforced by an improved serve.

The champion came back from a deficit in the initial set against the tricky Frenchman, securing 4 of the concluding five points to gain the advantage.

Both players swapped break points in the second set before the challenger, striving for his initial ATP Tour title, gained dominance to force a third set.

He saved four initial chances in a competitive final set before the champion broke to that score to close out the victory.

Appropriately, he clinched victory with a rally at the net area, with the Frenchman incapable to control a return after over two and a half hours.
