Larian Studios Reveal a Latest Divinity, Calling it Their Largest RPG Ever

The buzz about The Game Awards has been intense, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious image of a desert monolith. The question has been revealed. Larian Studios is working on a brand-new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very unleashing of hell.

Not the Expected Sequel

For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian clarified that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.

That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This choice of words implies that the team is likely building a faster-paced experience as opposed to another tactical title. Currently, this is speculation, as only a teaser video is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it sparked the recent resurgence of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—traits that recently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with specialized paths only possible if you're playing as a specific type of character with a specific history of choices.

The series is also famously flexible, allowing players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be completed in diverse methods, sometimes in unexpected fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you recalled something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.

More to Come

It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, the RPG community can get ready for another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
