Lando Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has outperformed his teammate at all of the past five grands prix.
The McLaren driver just pipped fellow driver and championship contender the Australian for the top spot in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the title advantage from Piastri by a single point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, topped the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Before then, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver during the running before the sprint shootout set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the championship fight, lying 36 points behind Norris, finished in 17th position as his Red Bull team ran a different programme.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to have an incident, though minor, when he rotated at the fourth corner early in the session.
The Japanese lost control over the exit kerbs before spinning across the run-off area, and was blessed to get away with just a slight brush of the fence.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also spun, at the very end of the practice, rotating twice through the fast downhill Mergulho corner leading to the final corner on to the pit straight.
The veteran ended the session in 19th, one place behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the rest of the field, with the German's car in third, 0.619secs slower than the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
